Selea-Bambao
Grande Comore (Ngazidja)
Comoros Island,
Indian Ocean
|
Selea-Bambao is situated in the East of the Bambao region, Grande Comore. Grande Comore is the bigest Island of the four Islands make the Comores. Comoros Island is located in a strategic position at the Northern end of the Mozambique Channel. The Islands arose from the seabed of the Western Indian Ocean. It is about ten to twelve degrees south of the Equator and less than 200 miles off the East African coast. The Islands lie approximately halfway between the Island of Madagascar and the Northern end of the Mozambique Channel. Grande Comore is dominated by a massive, active volcano. Numerous Volcanic experts are very worried that a very violent eruption may occur in some points in the near future. For centuries, Grande Comore was a major stopover along the mercantile routes of the Indian Ocean from Arabia to Africa, Europe and to the Orient. The Island
of Grande Comore has an active volcano that rises to a height of 7,746
feet (2,361 meters) above sea level. It has also several
swift running streams that cascade down to long, sandy beaches. |
